658,876. Gas and steam turbine plant. AKT.-GES. BROWN, BOVERI & CIE. Feb. 22, 1949. No. 4842. Convention date, Dec. 13, 1948. [Class 110(iii)] [Also in Groups XII and XIII] In a steam generator, in which the combustion gases are under pressure and are used to drive gas turbines 9, 12 which supply useful power and the compressed air for combustion, a combustion chamber 5, a first evaporator 6, a superheater 7 and a second evaporator 8 are arranged in that order in a straight line in the direction of gas flow. The whole is enclosed in a double walled casing 3. The compressed air is passed between the walls and is preheated. The high-pressure turbine 9 drives a highpressure compressor 2 and an A.C. generator 11 and is provided with an A.C. starting motor 15. The turbine 12 drives a lowpressure compressor 1 and has a D.C. starting motor 14 which may be used to assist the turbine. The gas turbine exhaust is used in a feed-water heater 13, an air preheater or both. The turbines have separate emergency governors 31, 35 which control byepass valves 34, 38. In the steam system, feed-water under pressure enters the heater 13 at 16, passes to a steam separator 17 and is then circulated by a pump 18 through the evaporators 8, 6, the separator 17 and the superheater 7. The evaporators 6, 8 have central byepass tubes 20, 27 controlled by valves 21, 28. The valve 21 is governed by the temperature of the superheated steam acting through a thermostat 23 and pressure cylinder 22. The valve 28 is governed by the temperature of the gases in front of the turbines acting through a thermostat 29 and cylinder 30. The steam may be used in a steam turbine.
