Abstract

645,671. Gas and steam turbine power plant. BAUMANN, K., and METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Oct. 13, 1948, No. 26683. [Class 110(iii)] Steam for a turbine 15 is generated in a heater 6 in a combustion chamber 5 which supplies working fluid for a gas turbine 12. The steam is superheated in a heater 9. The condensate which is returned to the generator by a pump 18 is heated at 17 by a steam bled from the turbine. The gas turbine 12 exhausts to turbines 13, 14 in series and the gas is reheated for each stage in heaters 10, 11. The turbines 13, 14 drive air-compressors 3, 1, with an intercooler 2 and the air is preheated at 4 by the gas exhaust. The combustion chamber temperature at the heaters 9, 10, 11 may be reduced by the admission of extra air through the line 23. The steam turbine may be in two stages with reheating between the stages and the gas turbine exhaust may be used to heat the feed-water. The steam turbine set may be replaced by a closed circuit air turbine set. The air circuit may be connected to the delivery of the compressor 3 so that the mass flow in the circuit will vary with the delivery pressure of the compressor 3.
