Abstract
683,823. Turbine plant. METROPOLITANVICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Jan. 23, 1951 [Feb. 24, 1950], No. 4866/50. Class 110(iii) In a power plant comprising a steam generator feeding a prime mover, and a gas turbine plant the whole or part of the exhaust gases of which provide at least a part of the combustion air in the steam generator, the steam supplied to the prime mover is superheated by combustion of fuel in compressed air to provide gases for driving the gas turbine. A steam generator 1 supplies steam through a first stage superheater 2 arranged in the generator and a second stage pressure combustion superheater 10 arranged in the combustion chamber 9 of the gas turbines 5, 6 to a steam turbine 3. The gas turbine 5 drives an air compressor 7 which supplies air through an air heater 8 to the combustion chamber 9 and the turbine 6 supplies the useful power. The exhaust gases from the turbine 6 are fed to the steam generator 1 where they form at least part of the combustion air. The pressure combustion superheater 9, 10 may also reheat the steam between the stages of the turbine. In a modification, a second pressure combustion superheater may be arranged in series with the superheater 9, 10 for reheating the steam. In this arrangement, a combustion chamber is arranged after the superheaters to enable the temperature at the inlet to the turbine 5 to be raised to the extent required. The amount of superheating may be controlled by regulating the amount of fuel burnt in the pressurised superheaters. Specifications 666,453, 682,003 and 682.396 are referred to.
