Abstract

A power producing installation comprises a steam operated power producing apparatus 7, at least one power producing gas turbine 4 arranged in an open gas cycle and steam generator 3, an air compressor 1 for supplying compressed air to the burners 2 of the steam generator and a half closed cycle superimposed upon the open gas cycle, the half closed cycle comprising a compressor 13 a power producing turbine 15 for driving the compressor, at least one recuperator 9', 10' for cooling the exhaust gases from the turbine with some of the feed water for the steam generator, the recuperator being connected for passing the cooled exhaust gases to the compressor, a combustion chamber 14 for heating the cooled gases after compression and before they are expanded in the turbine, burners 16 in the combustion chamber and means 17 for supplying compressed air to the burners such compressed air in operation forming the entry flow of the half closed cycle, the delivery flow from the half closed cycle in operation being formed by gases which have been heated in the steam generator before being expanded in the power producing turbine or turbines. The delivery of burnt gases leaves the half closed cycle through a passage 19. The steam operated power producing apparatus may be a steam turbine. The recuperator of the half closed cycle may be disposed in the enclosure of the steam generator and auxiliary burners which are supplied in operation with air by the ordinary cycle compressor are provided for heating the water flowing through the last mentioned recuperator in the case of the compressorturbine group of the half closed cycle being stopped. The burners of the combustion chamber of the half closed cycle may be arranged to receive the entire air delivery of the ordinary cycle compressor such delivery having its pressure increased by the compressor of the half closed cycle. Combustion in the combustion chamber of the half closed cycle is then effected with a large excess of air and the still oxygen-rich gases which are expanded in the turbine are supplied to the burners of the steam generator. The installation may comprise for the main steam production a steam generator which is added to the combustion chamber of the half closed cycle and which comprises the superheater and resuperheater for the steam, the low pressure combustion chamber being adapted to be cooled where applicable only by water screens. Other modifications are described.
