Abstract
507,423. Gas turbines. AKT.-GES. BROWN, BOVERI, &,CIE. Dec. 10, 1937, No. 34219. Convention date, Dec. 10, 1936. [Class 110 (iii)] [Also in Group XII] Relates to plant in which gases under pressure are burnt in a chamber 2 and passed to a heat-exchanger 3 and in which the residual heat is used to drive a turbine 4 coupled to an air-compressor 5 from which air under pressure is supplied to the combustion chamber 2. For starting up such a plant, a byepass 7 is provided equipped with a combustion chamber 8. With the parts 2, 3 shut by valves 11, a starter motor 6 can bring the turbine 4 into operation without the necessity of a preliminary heating of the parts 23. Subsequently, the valves 11 can be used to close the byepass and put the plant into normal condition. An electric generator 12 may take any excess of power developed by the turbine 4 and may also be used as a starting motor. The combustion chamber 8 consists of an open-ended cylinder 20, Fig. 2, spaced from the concentric pressure pipe 21, with regulatable fuel and air inlets 22, 23.
