Abstract

905,663. Turbine plant. DE HAVILLAND ENGINE CO. Ltd. May 31, 1960 [June 1, 1959 ; July 29, 1959 ; March 7, 1960], Nos. 18690/59, 26080/59 and 8046/60. Class 110 (3). In a power plant comprising a continuous combustion gas turbine, the heat of the exhaust gases from the power turbine is used for raising the temperature of a working element in an engine which drives an exhauster arranged to lower the outlet pressure of the working fluid from the turbine. Working fluid from a bank of water-cooled gas generators 14 is heated in a combustion chamber 15 and then fed to a main gas power turbine 11 or a smaller reversing gas turbine 12. The exhaust gases from the turbine 11 or 12 are drawn through a heat exchanger 16 by an exhauster 17 driven by a steam turbine 18 fed with steam generated in the heat exchanger 16 and a heat exchanger 22 arranged on the discharge side of the exhauster 17. The condensate may be used to cool the gas generators 14. An auxiliary fuel burner 36 may be fitted to the heat exchanger 16 for starting and control purposes. A pump 31 and valves 32, 33, 34 may be used to reduce winding losses in the idling turbine. In a modification, the exhaust heat is utilized in a thermopile, the power from which is used in an electric motor driving the exhauster. According to the third Provisional Specification, the power from the thermopile may be used in an electrical preheater. Specification 905,664 is referred to.
