Abstract
640,978. Gas turbine plant. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT), Ltd. April 26, 1948, No. 11375. [Class 110(iii)] [Also in Group XIII] In a gas turbine plant comprising an exhaust gas heat-exchanger, materials deposited in the hot pass 5 are burnt off by temporarily raising the temperature of the working fluid after it has left the turbine. In this operation the exhaust from the turbine 2, Fig. 1, is reheated in a combustion chamber 8 before reaching the heat-ex-- changer. Oxygen, or catalytic material may be added in front of the exchanger at O. The pressure in the cold pass is relieved during the operation by means of a byepass 7. The combustion chamber 8 may be byepassed during normal running. Fig. 3 shows a plant in which a single combustion chamber 4 can, by means of valves 11- 14, be placed before the turbine 2 for normal running or after the turbine for the burning operation. In the latter case the compressor 1 is driven by a motor 6.
