Abstract

749,263. Gas turbine plant. MASCHINEFABRIK AUGSBURG-NURNBERG AKT.- GES. July 20, 1953 [July 19, 1952], No. 20115/53. Class 110(3) A gas turbine plant in which the compressed combustion air is heated by the turbine exhaust gases in a heat exchanger before entering a combustion chamber burning gaseous fuel feeding the turbine has an additional combustion chamber in the turbine exhaust duct.between the turbine and heat exchanger to which liquid or gaseous fuel is temporarily fed by automatic means when the load on the plant is increased. In the arrangement shown, air compressed in a compressor 1 is heated in a heat exchanger 3 by the turbine exhaust gases before entering a combustion chamber 5 feeding the turbines 2, 6. The turbine 2 also drives a compressor 4 which feeds fuel gas to the chamber 5. The low pressure turbine 6 drives an electric generator 8. A further auxiliary combustion chamber 7 is arranged between the turbine 1 and the heat exchanger 3. When the load on the turbine 6 increases the 'turbine slows down and the governor 10 acting through a member 9 opens the valve 11. The auxiliary combustion chamber 7 is then put into operation. The temperature of the air leaving the heat exchanger 3 and consequently the temperature of the gases entering the turbine increases and the turbines speed up. More air and combustion gas is compressed and more useful power generated. When steady conditions are again reached, the valve 11 is shut. If a decrease in load occurs, the member 9 opens the valve 12 and reduces the gas supply to the combustion chambers. At starting of the plant, the valves 14 and 15 are closed and valve 12 opened so that the compressor 4 runs in a vacuum. The plant is started by a motor 13. and during thos phase fuel is burnt only in the auxiliary combustion chamber 7. A liquid instead of a gaseous fuel may be used. The. compressors 1 4 may be driven by the low pressure turbine and the generator 13 by the high pressure turbine. A number of air and gas compressors driven by a plurality of turbines may be used.
