730,126. Gas turbine plant. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG-NURNBERG AKT.- GES. June 1, 1953 [June 3, 1952], No. 15275/53. Class 110(3). In a gas turbinecompressor installation adapted to supply compressed air to a consumer network operating at a higher pressure than the turbine, the final compression of the air for the network is effected in a separate compressor the delivery pressure of which is independent of the speed of the apparatus. The turbine 4 drives a compressor 1 which supplies air to the combustion chamber 3 through a heat exchanger 2 and feeds a separate compressor 6, driven through gearing 5 via an intercooler 7. The compressor 6 delivers air to the network 9 through a non- return valve 8, and is fitted with a by pass connection 11 provided with a valve which can be opened for no-load operation. A temperature-sensitive device 12 gradually opens the valve 10 and limits the fuel supply in the event of a prolonged excessive temperature. A turbine driving a generator may be arranged in parallel with the turbine 4. A modification employs a series arrangement of two turbines driving two compressors, the separate compressor being driven directly by the second turbine which also drives a generator. The separate compressor is fed from the first compressor or from a tapping on the second compressor.
