Abstract
718,694. Gas turbine plant. VICKERS-ARMSTRONGS, Ltd., and ZEFFERT, H. April 22, 1952 [May 22, 1951], No. 11922/51. Class 110(3) A gas turbine plant comprising two more gas turbine engines each having a sub-turbine driving auxiliary apparatus fed with working fluid tapped from the turbine of each engine, has the rotors of at least two sub-turbines coupled so as to rotate together and valve means in the working fluid supply pipe to each sub-turbine controlled in response to the output of each auxiliary apparatus. In the arrangement shown, gas is tapped from the turbines of the gas turbine engines 1, 1A and passed through pipes 2, 2A and intercoolers 3. 3A to subturbines 4, 4A driving generators 5, 5A through clutch mechanisms 6, 6A. The output of each generator 5, 5A is arranged to control throttle valves 9. 9A through controllers 8, 8A so that the sub-turbine speeds remain constant irrespective of variations of pressure in the pipes 2, 2A. The sub-turbines 4, 4A are interconnected by a shaft 7. Either of the clutch mechanisms 6, 6A may be disengaged when either of the generators 5, 5A fail. The sub-turbines and generators may be placed in the fuselage. The generators 5, 5A may be replaced by a mechanical load.
