Abstract
639,451. Air and gas turbine plant. AKT.- GES. FUR TECHNISCHE STUDIEN. May 20, 1948, No. 13694. Convention date, June 16, 1947. [Class 110(iii)] A power plant comprises turbines working with air in a closed circuit and wastegas turbines working with the combustion products from the air-heaters. Useful power up to a certain load is provided by the air-turbines alone. Above that load, additional useful power is provided by the waste-gas turbines. Air for turbine 4 is heated at 2 and the exhaust is reheated at 11 for the turbine 13. The turbine 4 drives the compressors 5, 6, 7 and has a starting motor 8. The turbine 13 provides useful power. A waste-gas turbine 22 drives a compressor 21 providing combustion air for the air-heaters 3, 12 and is coupled to an electrical machine 26 which may operate as a generator or motor. A waste-gas turbine 25, in either parallel or series with turbine 21, is coupled to turbine 13. Turbine 13 may be replaced by forward and reverse turbines, or by a single turbine designed to run in either direction and provided with appropriate pipes and valves.
