627,959. Gas turbine plant. ELCE, N., and METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Oct. 28, 1947, No. 28761. [Class 110(iii)] Ahead and astern high-pressure turbines T2, T3 drive a common shaft 1 and a ship's propeller 1a. The operating turbine delivers its exhaust to a low-pressure turbine T1 which drives a compressor C1 and the idly-running turbine is open to atmosphere. Change-over from ahead to astern and vice-versa is effected by valves 7, 13. The unit T1, C1 is started by an external motor and can be run, when neither turbine T1 or T2 is in operation, by gases provided by a combustion chamber 5, as shown, or, by gases from the main combustion cham. ber 3.
