Abstract
844,520. Controlling aircraft. SOC. DE BREVETS H. D. June 17, 1958 [June 17, 1957], No. 19375/58. Class 4. In an aircraft powered by two or greater even-number of power units 6a, 6b arranged symmetically on either side of the fuselage axis and wherein ailerons 5a, 5b are provided to correct a rolling tendency resulting from failure of a power unit, means such as a valve 9a, 9b and conduit 8a, 8b connect a source of pressure gas from the engine with slots adjacent the upper leading edges of the ailerons to increase the efficiency of the ailerons under such conditions. The control valves are operated automatically by an engine driven torque-meter, speed governor or pressure-responsive device. The source of pressure gas may be an enginedriven compressor or a tapping from the compressor of a gas turbine engine. The apparatus may be adapted to automatically deflect the appropriate aileron upon failure of an engine.
