Abstract
587,558. Gas turbines. BRISTOL AEROPLANE CO., Ltd., and FORTESCUE, P. Feb. 19, 1943, No. 21197/44. Divided out of 587,516. [Class 110 (iii)] [Also in Group XXIX] The gas turbine plant of an aircraft, which drives one, or a pair of, airscrews and provides a propulsive jet, is governed so as to maintain a constant expansion ratio in the turbine by varying the power given to the jet. The set expansion ratio is, however, varied with the altitude. The inlet and exhaust pressures of the turbine are applied to the exteriors of exhausted capsules 24, 27 connected to a lever 28 which rides on a pivot 52. Movement of the lever is communicated, through a lever 29, to a valve 34 of a servomotor 35 which controls the opening of the jet baffle 20. The pivot 52 is provided at the end of a lever 47 which is turned, in accordance with the atmospheric pressure, to move the pivot relatively to the lever 28 and so to vary the set ratio between the turbine pressures. This ratio can also be varies by hand by a cam which determines the zero setting of the capsule responding to the atmospheric pressure. The fuel supply is regulated by means of a speed governor.
