Abstract

768,792. Cooling bearings. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG - NURNBERG AKT.- GES. April 20, 1955 [May 20, 1954], No. 11442/55. Class 12 (1). The bearings 4, 5 of a gas turbine are cooled, upon stoppage of the installation, by oil supplied from an accumulator 10. Under operating conditions, cooling oil is supplied under pressure through a conduit 7 to the bearings. A branch pipe 11 connects the accumulator 10 to the conduit 7 so that oil enters the accumulator and compresses air in the top thereof. When the installation stops, the compressed air in the accumulator 10 forces oil through conduit 7 to the bearings. The flow is controlled by a diaphragm in the pipe 11, and a non-return valve 13 prevents flow-back of oil from the tank to the pump. In a modification, a weighted piston 16, Fig. 2, is employed and in a further modification, Fig. 3, the piston is spring-pressed. The reservoir 10 may be annular and arranged concentrically with the blower casing.
