Abstract

902,070. Stopping. NATIONAL MINE SERVICE CO. Jan. 20, 1961 [Feb. 25, 1960], No. 2353/61. Class 7(5) [Also in Group XXVI] In a safety control system for internal combustion engines with an intake line 16 for combustion air and a fuel supply line, an air control valve 18 in the air intake line and a fuel control valve in the fuel supply line and with an exhaust pipe 27 and an exhaust gas conditioner 1, 3, the air control valve and the fuel control valve are operated by a respective control cylinder 20, 23 each control cylinder includes means to bias its respective valve into inoperative position and is operated by air pressure through a compressed air line to move its respective valve into operative position, the compressed air line includes a floatoperated safety valve 25 and/or a thermally operated safety valve 26 the float operated safety valve removes air pressure from both central cylinders when the fluid level in a float box falls below a predetermined level and the thermally operated safety valve removes air pressure from both control cylinders when the temperature of the exhaust pipe rises above a predetermined temperature. The compressed air line which supplies air to operate the two control cylinders is connected through a manual starter valve 15 to a pilot-operated air valve 8 and the actuation of the manual starter valve admits air from the compressed air line under control of at least one of the two safety valves to the pilot-operated air valve. The air pressure applied to this valve puts the valve in a position wherein compressed air is permitted to flow to a starter 10 causing this starter to crank the engine. The connection between the pilot-operated air valve and starter includes a lubricator 9 which adds a mist of lubricating oil to the compressed air stream going to the starting motor. When it is desired to stop the engine the manual shut off valve 14 may be pressed.
