Abstract

536,805. Spray carburetters. S.P.I.C.A. (SOC. POMPE ' INIEZIONE CASSANI AFFINI). Aug. 18, 1939, No. 23910. Convention date, Aug. 18, 1938. [Clas : 7 (iii)] [Also in Group XXVI] A carburetting-device is provided with three fluid-operated valves, one controlling the supply of air, another regulating a further air supply to the fuel tank and to the fuel atomizer, while the third controls the fuel supply. Fig. 1 shows the air supply 6 heated at 5 by the exhaust pipes 3 and controlled by a valve 7 which is opened against the action of a spring 8 by pressure supplied to a bellows 28 by a lubricating or other pump 10 driven by the engine. When the engine is rotated for starting, the pressure is sufficient to open the valve 7 slightly, but when the engine begins to operate the pressure is, increased until the valve 7 is fully opened. Air under pressure is also supplied by a pipe 14 to the fuel tank 13 under the control of a valve 15 connected to a diaphragm 17 acted on by the air supply 6. The flow of fuel from the tank 13 to the jet 35 is also controlled by a valve 24 subjected to the pressure of the pump 10. The air pipe 14 is also connected to a helical passage surrounding the fuel nozzle at the jet 35. The valves 7 and 15 may be connected together for simultaneous operation by the pressure of the pump 10. In the case where the pump 10 is that used for lubricating, failure of the oil supply will result in shutting off the fuel supply by the valve 24, and means may be provided also for cutting out the ignition.
