Abstract

547,224. Lubricating. HALLEWELL, G., and BLACKSTONE & CO., Ltd. Feb. 17, 1941, No. 2167. [Class 12 (iii)] An internal-combustion engine is primed with lubricating oil by compressed air from the starting- air receiver, the pressure of the air forcing the oil from its container to the engine parts. Oil from the engine sump 2 flows through a partial-non-return valve 12 to the container I which is connected by pipe 8 to the pipe 9 leading from the receiver 10 to the engine. On starting, the air forces the oil from container 1 through pipe 4 and reducing valve 13 and thence through either pipe 7 and the piston lubricating system or non-return valve 5 and pipes 6 and the filter box and bearings in the main lubricating system. Valve 12 reduces the area of the pipe opening when the pressure in the container 1 is greater than that in the sump 2. The container 1 may have a non-return outlet valve 14.
