Abstract
542,771. Spray carburetters. BRITISH AEROPLANE CO., Ltd., BUTLER, L. F. G., and MASSEY, B. S. July 25, 1940, No. 12164. [Class 7 (iii)] The danger of excessive delivery of fuel to the float chamber, as when priming by a hand pump, passing into the induction system and cylinders is prevented by providing the float chamber 11 with an overflow pipe 13 leading to a drain 14, which is closed by a valve 16 only when the engine is running. The valve may be closed by the pressure of the lubricating oil in a pipe 19 acting on a diaphragm 17 ; or the pressure difference between the induction system and atmosphere may be used. The oil or other pressure may also act on a valve 22 for disposing of excess fuel delivered by the accelerator pump as described in Specification 497,674.
