Abstract

571,748. Actuating materials. GRUBB, S. July 11, 1944, No. 13274. [Class 7 (ii)] An engine uses fuel oil both for operating and lubricating. The oil passes from a main fuel tank 1 through a pipe 2 to a float chamber 3, fixed to the side of the crank-case 4, and communicating therewith through a pipe 5. From the crank-case the oil passes through an outlet 8 and is pumped continuously by a pump 7 to an auxiliary fuel tank 10 provided near its top with an overflow pipe 13 leading to the main tank. A drain-cock 14 connects the auxiliary tank to a filter 15 leading to a pipe 16 connected to a fuel injection pump 11. In an engine normally operating on petrol, a mixture of petrol and lubricating oil is used and passes through pipe 16 to a carburetter instead of the fuel injection pump.
