Abstract

570,581. Lubricating internal-combustion engines. NAPIER & SON, Ltd., D., and TRYON, H. C. Jan. 10, 1944, No. 423. [Class 12 (iii)] A substantial part, say one half, of the lubricating oil withdrawn from the engine sump A by a pump B is supplied by a pump or other metering device E through a pipe L directly to the sleeve valves, reduction gears, or accessory driving shaft bearings of the engine without passing through a cooler F through which the remainder of the oil passes to a tank G from which it is pumped by a main pressure pump J through a pipe L<1> to the main crank-shaft bearings. Means may be provided for cutting out the pump E and connecting the pipes L, L<1> so that all the oil passes through the cooler. A de-aerator C having an air vent pipe M connected to the tank G may be provided between the pumps B, E.
