Abstract

588,712. Lubricating systems. POWER JETS, Ltd., and WALKER, D. N. Dec. 10, 1943, No. 20744. [Class 12 (iii)] A diluent or thinner is supplied to the lubricating system of aero engines or other machinery on shutting down or during running by a gear wheel pump 8 driven by an electric motor 9 through a differential gear assembly 4, the other output spindle of which rotates a paddle wheel 2 in the outlet of the main lubricant tank 1 so that the delivery of the pump 8 is dependent on the viscosity of the lubricant. The motor 9 is controlled by a time switch 9A which may be controlled by a thermometer 10 in the tank 1. Alternatively the thermometer 10 may actuate a brake 7A on the paddle wheel spindle 3 or a valve in the outlet of the pump 8. The Provisional Specification states that the delivery of the diluent may be controlled by other means dependent on the oil viscosity such as the pressure difference caused by a restriction in a pipe line or on the two sides of a lubricant pump. It also states that the diluent pump may be in operation continuously.
