[Class 12 (iii)] [Also in Group XXVII The lubricant pump of an engine unit suitable for use in a high-speed multi-engined motor boat is operated by the driven-shaft of the gear box and valves are operated to reverse the connections between the inlet and outlet of the oil circuit when 'the driven shaft is rotated in the reverse direction. In the construction described, a gear box casing 20 containing a reverse gear preferably of the type shown in Specification 458,456, [Group XXIV], carries an integral pump casing 11 fitted with gear-wheel scavenge and delivery pumps 10, 100 arranged at 45 degrees from 'the horizontal to enable the front of the pump casing to be easily removed. One gear wheel of each pump is keyed to a shaft 15 .driven from the output shaft of the gear box. The spaces 17, 18 on opposite sides of the gear wheels of the pump 10 are each connected to channels 21, 22 leading to delivery and supply passages 21a, 22a, in 'the lubricating circuit. When the gear lever 40 is in the forward or neutral positions I, II, Fig. 4, a rod 38 engaging a roller 35 on a sleeve 30 maintains valves 24, 25 slidable in the channels 21, 22 in positions connecting the space 17 to the supply passage 22a and the space 18 to the delivery passage 21a. When the gear lever 40 is in the reverse position III the roller 35 encounters a recessed portion 39 of the rod 38 and a spring 36 moves the sleeve 30 on a neck 31 on the pump body to operate the valves 24, 25 to connect the space 18 to the supply passage 22a and the space 17 to the delivery passage 21a. The pump 100 is fitted with valves 124, 125 similarly operated by the sleeve 30 to reverse the connections to the supply and delivery passages 122a, 121a.
