Abstract

790,618. Gear pumps. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. July 31, 1956 [Aug. 24, 1955], No. 23653/56. Class 110 (2). [Also in Group XXIV] A gear pump incorporated in an hydraulically controlled automatic transmission has a centrifugal governor 44 rotatably coupled to its driven gear 32 and discharges through a conduit 82 and a groove 70 in the body 42 of the governor. The governor is provided with two valves 90, 104, the valve 104 being similar to the valve 90 except that it is supplied with oil under pressure from the delivery line 120 of the valve 90 and does not incorporate the spring 100 and weight mechanism 98 thereof. The discharge conduits 120, 134 of the governor communicate with grooves 70 in the body portion 42 whilst the conduits 124, 140 constitute exhaust conduits, the arrangement being such that the delivery pressure in the discharge conduits 120, 134 remains constant. The gear pump is mounted on the transmission casing and is driven by an I.C. engine, see Fig. 1 (not shown). The governor is driven by a U-shaped connector which is received in an arcuate recess 60 in the body portion 42 and has leg portions received in opposed recesses in the gear, see Fig. 2 (not shown). Specification 790,617, [Group XXIV], is referred to.
