Abstract
567,490. Lubricating systems. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. (General Electric Co.). Jan. 19, 1944, No. 1066. [Class 12 (iii)] A safety valve, in the supply line between a force pump and a supply tank which is located higher than the machine points to be lubricated, is controlled by the pressure in the return pipe line between the scavenger pump and the return tank. The casing 20 has an inlet 21 from the supply tank and an outlet 22 to the force pump and contains a differential piston 29, 36 having at one end a spring 35 and at the other end a connection 38 to the return pipe line, the piston being in closed position unless the pressure in pipe 38 overcomes the spring 35. The piston carries a priming valve 33 which is opened at starting by the suction of the force pump. The piston has vents 39, 40 so that should the scavenger pump circulate air and not oil, the air will leak through these vents and allow the spring 35 to operate. The valve will shut off the oil supply should the supply line or return pipe line be broken, or when the machine is idle.
