Abstract

703,726. Supplying liquid fuel to burners. JET-HEET, Inc. Oct. 16, 1951, No. 24093/51. Class 75 (1) A liquid fuel burner system comprises a spray nozzle 45, Fig. 3, of the return flow type, a pump 44 for supplying fuel to a cylinder 11 to move a piston 26, Fig. 1, therein against the action of a spring 35 to expose and to allow fuel to flow through a port 36 intermediate the ends of the cylinder 11 to the nozzle supply conduit 39, and on the stopping of the pump 44 the piston 26 is returned by the spring 35 to suck fuel from the conduit 39 and also from the fuel return conduit 51 connected between the nozzle 45 and a port 18 opening into the cylinder 11 beyond the piston at the maximum spring compressing position of the latter. The piston 26 has external grooves 28, 29 formed between flanges 30, 31, 32, a sealing ring 33 being disposed in the groove 28, and the flange 32 having holes 38 for the passage of fuel. The cylinder 11 is formed in a body 10 having an extension 16 receiving the spring 35 and formed with threaded openings 19, 20. 21 communicating with the port 18. The opening 20 receives the conduit 51, the opening 19 being connected to a conduit 52 leading through a pressure. regulator 50 to the fuel supply tank 41, and the opening 21 being either plugged or connected to a pressure gauge. The ports 18, 36 are preferably of equal size so that the piston 26 when moved by the spring 35 draws fuel from the conduits 39, 51 at about equal rates. A pressure regulating valve 56 controls the fuel pressure m the fuel supply conduit 25 and may have connected in parallel therewith a solenoid operated relief valve, responsive to a thermostat which by-passes the fuel supply to the cylinder 11 and thus to the nozzle 45 when heat is no longer required. The cylinder 11 is preferably disposed below the level of the nozzle 45 so that no fuel will flow by gravity to the latter when the piston 26 operates to withdraw fuel from the conduits 39,'51. Specification 696,335 is referred to.
