Abstract
1,007,228. Supplying oil to burners. SUNDSTRAND INTERNATIONAL CORPORATION. Aug. 7, 1963 [Nov. 23, 1962], Heading F4T. An oil supply system to a burner (not shown) comprises a first pump 15 maintaining the oil in a reservoir 12 at the level of the pump inlet 20 and a second pump 22 supplying oil from the reservoir 12 to a valve 30 comprising a spring-urged piston 33 closing an outlet 36 leading to the burner. The piston has bypass slots 40 communicating with an annular groove 41 formed on the exterior of the piston and a bleed hole 42 extends from the annular groove into the interior of the piston. The interior of the piston communicates through ports 43 and a return line 45 with the supply tank. At starting air is purged through the hole 42 but in normal operation only a small portion of the oil passes therethrough. The valve is opened by the oil pressure and excess oil is returned to the reservoir when the annular groove 41 registers with ports 46 leading to an annular space 47 connected by a conduit 48 to the reservoir.
