Abstract

1289046 Lubricating OLIN CORP 19 Feb 1970 [7 March 1969] 8058/70 Heading F2A [Also in Division F1] Liquid lubricant in a pumping chamber 22 is forced into a pressure system connected to a port 8 when a surge of pressure occurs in the system sufficient to move a piston 10 against the action of a spring 66. The piston 10 is hollow and contains a valve member 16 urged by a spring 84 to close an aperture 64 in communication with the chamber 22. When the piston is moved into the chamber 22 the valve member 16 lifts and allows liquid to flow around the valve into a chamber 12 and thence to the system connected to the port 8. At the end of the pressure surge the spring 66 returns the piston and a spring loaded poppet valve 18 opens to re-fill the chamber 22 from a reservoir connected to a port 4. The system may be for engine starting, Fig. 6 (not shown), in which pressurized gas from a reservoir, or produced from the combustion of a solid propellent, drives a rotary starter motor. Thus the motor receives a slug of lubricant each time the starter is operated.
