Abstract

1,030,357. Cams and tappets. MOTORMAK MOTORONBAU MACHINENUND WERKZEUGFABRIK KONSTRUKTIONEN G.m.b.H. Feb. 28, 1964 [March 2, 1963], No. 8387/64. Heading F2K. [Also in Division F1] In an hydraulic tappet consisting of two parts 7, 8 which slide one within the other and enclose a pressure chamber 20 communicating through a non-return valve 18 with an antechamber 17 supplied with pressured oil through ports 14, 16 from an engine lubricating circuit, the ports 14 are arranged so that the oil supply is interrupted when the tappet has travelled over part of its working stroke. When the tappet is at the beginning of its stroke in the position shown, pressurized oil passes through ducts 12, 14, 16 and into pressure chamber 20 through antechamber 17 and non-return valve 18 and causes the tappet to take up clearance. During tappet lift a land 27 cuts off further oil supply whilst other tappets in the same engine block are supplied through groove 13a and port 12a. Air leakage ports 24 are throttled by an internal sleeve 25.
