Abstract
1,082,178. Valve tappets. MOTOMAK MOTORENBAU MASCHINEN-UND WERKZEUGFABRIK KONSTRUKTIONEN G.m.b.H. March 3, 1965 [March 7, 1964], No. 9066/65. Heading F2K. In an hydraulic tappet between an engine cam 2 and a valve stem 12, an oil pressure chamber 5 between an outer cylinder 1 and a mating piston 4 is vented by an oil exhaust passage 15 in the cylinder 1 which is throttled intermittently by the cam 2 to give a pulsating throughput of engine lubricating oil to prevent air build-up in the pressure chamber 5. Oil from a passage 10 enters, via ports 9, 8 in the cylinder 1 and piston 4, a chamber 7 in the piston 4 from whence it enters the pressure chamber 5 through a ball check-valve 6. Oil from the chamber 5 is further throttled around a piston 16 in the cylinder 1 before passing through the exhaust passage 15. A spring 11 biases the piston 4 against a retaining ring 13 in the cylinder 1.
