Abstract

861,087. Supplying liquid fuel to burners. BOSCH G.m.b.H., R. June 10, 1959 [June 20, 1958]. No. 19803/59. Class 75 (1). The supply of liquid fuel to a burner 13 from a pump 3 is controlled by a valve 7 actuated by the fuel pressure and adapted, when the pressure is low, to close a channel 11 leading to the burner 13 and to allow the fuel to flow through a restriction 26 into a return passage 16 connected to the suction side of the pump, and, when the pressure increases, to open the channel 11 and stop the flow through the restriction 26 and when the pressure exceeds a predetermined upper pressure, to allow the fuel to flow directly to the suction side of the pump. The restriction 26 is formed in the valve 7 between an axial passage 25 extending from the front surface of the valve and radial passages 24 leading to a circumferential groove 22 on the valve. When the pressure is low the groove 22 communicates with the return passage 16 but, as soon as the valve opens the burner feed channel 11, the groove 22 is closed by the valve casing 5. When the pump is stopped a spring 8 returns the valve 7 to the starting position and the valve sucks oil from the burner through a relief channel 14 in the casing into a chamber 30. The initial movement of the valve 7 on restarting the pump forces some of the oil in the chamber 30 to the burner but when the valve opens the burner supply passage 11 it simultaneously closes the relief channel 14 and opens passages 28 in the valve leading from the chamber 30 to a leakage channel 18 connected to the return passage 16.
