Abstract
1,007,861. Fuel injection pumps. C. A. V. Ltd. Feb. 13, 1963 [Feb. 26, 1962], No. 7331/62. Heading F1A. [Also in Division F2] A liquid-fuel pump comprises a rotary feed-pump 2 and an injection pump, the latter including a rotary head 5 housing transverse pistons 7 that coact with an annular cam 9; the rotary parts of the fluid and injection pumps are interconnected by a rotary distributor 10. A controlled quantity of fuel is delivered from the feed pump outlet 4 via a throttle valve 16 to the space between the pistons 7 whereby the latter are moved outwardly; the cam 9 then urges the pistons inwardly to supply fuel to one of a number of outlet ports 13. A pressure-responsive valve 17 is arranged across the feed pump 2, the valve comprising a hollow axially-slidable closure-member 21 with a radial port 25, the member 21 being urged by a spring 24 to a position where the port 25 is closed by a stepped part of the valve body. A flat 26 which is formed along the member 21, provides a permanently-open restriction across the member 21 so that when the valve is closed the fuel pump may be primed by feeding fuel from the feeder pump inlet 3 to its outlet 4.
