984,688. Fuel injection pumps. SULZER FRERES S.A. Jan. 18, 1963 [Feb. 1, 1962], No. 2361/63. Heading F1A. In a fuel injection pump comprising a plunger 4 provided with axially symetrically disposed control edges 7, 8 co-operating respectively with axially spaced ports 11, 12 which respectively control the beginning and end of the injection operation, the ports 12 for the end of injection are connected to an outlet passage for excess fuel separate from the pressure inlet passage. The inlet and outlet passages communicate with their respective ports via annular chambers 13, 14 and the chamber 13 is provided with a venting screw 20. The provision of a separate outlet for the excess fuel reduces hydraulic shock and erosion and also any tendency to foam, since the spilled excess fuel does not mix with the fresh fuel from the inlet passage.
