Abstract

1,106,317. Fuel-injection pumps. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. May 20, 1966, No.22526/66. Heading F1A. In a fuel-injection pump for an I. C. engine with a turbocharger, a rotatable and axially slidable metering valve 3 controls the fuel flow from a feed pump to the injection pump, the valve spool being axially loaded by a spring (14) Fig. 2 (not shown) in opposition to the fuel pressure supplied to the lower end of the spool by the feed pump, and the rate of the spring and the shape of the axial control groove 13 in the spool being selected to give increased fuel flow with increasing engine speed. Valve 3 is rotatable to control flow between inlet chamber 2 supplied by the feed pump and outlet 4, which communicates with the fuel injection pump pumping chamber 9, when aligned with passages 5a in a rotary distributor 6. The fuel is delivered to injectors via passage 7 and passages 12. The spring may be a leaf spring, coil spring or torsion spring. The injection pump has plungers 10 actuated by a cam ring. The spring may be fitted with a damper.
