Abstract

641,304. Rotary compressors. MARBLE, J. C. Feb. 26, 1948, No. 5756. Convention date, Aug. 21, 1943. [Class 110(ii)] In a meshing screw compressor valve means 38, 40 are provided to limit the pressure differential between the delivery end of the rotor chamber and the receiving chamber 16. When the pressure in the latter is reduced, e.g. when supplying air to an aircraft engine at high altitude, the valves lift against their light springs 42, 44 so that the compressor delivers air at a lower pressure. The compressor comprises a casing 10 containing male and female rotors 18, 20, an end wall 14 for closing the working spaces of the compressor. the wall being cut away to provide an outlet port a ... h. The inlet port may be combined radialaxial, or entirely axial, of known design. The valves may be placed in various positions. Fig. 3 shows a compressor with an inlet 70 and delivery 56, and control valves 50, 60, 62, placed as shown and communicating with the delivery. Before a groove 24 has passed out of registry with the valve 50 it comes into registry with valve 60 and differential pressure will act to continue to limit the pressure which can be built up in the groove. To secure a quantity control, a byepass valve 64, coupled to the inlet throttle valve 72, is opened. Other relief valves may be arranged in the casing wall which may lead to the atmosphere. The valves may be actuated by servomotor or other controls.
