Abstract
958,364. Rotary compressors or motors. SVENSKA ROTOR MASKINER A.B. May 30, 1960 [June 4, 1959], No. 19010/60. Heading F1F. A meshing screw compressor or motor comprises a valve port in the high pressure end wall of the machine, the port permitting communication between a low pressure zone and a (chevron-shaped) working chamber which is out of communication with both the high pressure and low pressure ports, and a valve member which controls the valve port. Fig. 4 is a section through a machine at the high pressure end wall, and shows a plurality of radially slidable valves 48 which can connect the rotor bores to a low pressure chamber. When, for example, the machine acts as a compressor, selective withdrawal of the slide valves determines the point at which the working chambers are finally cut-off from the low pressure supply, thus varying the mass flow and compression ratio. The valves may be poppet valves. In Fig. 6, elongated valve ports extend tangentially of the rotor bores, and are progressively adjustable by sliders 52, 54.
