Abstract
1,016,722. Rotary pumps and compressors. ESTABLISSEMENT STUDIA TECHNICA. Oct. 11, 1962 [Oct. 13, 1961], No. 38598/62. Heading F1F. A rotary pump or compressor of the rotary abutment type comprises complementary profiled interengaging rotors 1, 2, Fig. 2, interconnected by external gearing to rotate at the same speed in overlapping parallel bores 3, 4 of a stator 5 having an inlet 7 and an outlet 8. The rotor 2 in rotating controls a duct 9 communicating with the outlet 8. Symmetrically disposed on etither side of the duct 9 are conduits 12 inter-connecting the bores 3, 4, so that the pump or compressor operates in two stages. During the first stage the rotor 1 on rotating transfers fluid from the bore 3 through the conduits 12 to a cavity 10<SP>1</SP> in the rotor 2 until such time that the rotor 2 closes the conduits 12. In the meantime the rotor 2 has unmasked the duct 9 and compressed fluid is discharged from the bore 3 directly to the cavity 10 and outlet 8. To vary the effective compression ratio one or more valves 16 each controlling a port 15 connecting the bore 4 with the outlet 8 may be fitted. Additionally one or more valves 19, each controlling a duct 17 connecting the compression space in the bore 3 to the inlet 7 may be fitted to regulate output. The valves 16, 19 may be controlled manually or spring-loaded.
