Abstract

1,140,909. Regulating L C. engines; centrifugal compressors, gas turbine plant; turbines. C.A.V. Ltd. Sept.6, 1966 [Aug. 24, 1965], No.36236/65. Headings F1B, F1C, F1G and F1T In an I. C. engine turbocharger which has a body part including a turbine part and a compressor part, a valve 15 which controls the turbine outlet is inter-connected with a valve 17 controlling the compressor outlet so as to be controllable together, it's piston ring type seal (not shown) which seals the shaft inter-connecting the turbine rotor and the compressor rotor is normally supplied with pressurized oil. When the valves are closed a spring-loaded carbon ring thrust retarder block is brought into contact with the shaft. The retarder maybe actuated by a solenoid when the exhaust brake is engaged or may be actuated mechanically or by fluid-pressure.
