Abstract

599,106. Fluid-pressure servomotorcontrol systems. LUCAS, Ltd., J., and IFIELD, R. J. Sept. 13, 1945, No. 23646. [Class 135] In a variable delivery pump, e.g. for supplying fuel to an internal-combustion prime mover, the output of the pump is regulated by fluid-actuated means controlled by a valve the operation of which is dependent on the pressure difference across a throttle valve which varies the rate of delivery of the fuel in accordance with the demand. As shown in Fig. 1, the valve v, which is disposed in a housing u, controls the leakage from one side of a spring- loaded piston o connected to the adjustable swash-plate e of a rotary pump having an inlet i and an outlet k, the latter communicating through a duct r and a restricted passage s with the opposite sides of the piston. The valve v is mounted at one end of a lever loaded at its opposite end by a spring y and a diaphragm 7 the opposite sides of which are connected by pipes 9 across a throttle valve 3 actuated through rack-and-pinion gear by a lever 4. In a modification, the lever pivots on a diaphragm 12, Fig. 2, dividing the housing u<1> into parts 10, 11, the former of which contains a capsule 13 exposed on its outside to atmospheric pressure and bearing upon the lever.
