Abstract

596,350. Lubricating toothed gearing. PRECISION DEVELOPMENTS CO., Ltd., and OLAH, G. July 24, 1945, No. 18897. [Class 12 (iii)] A gear drive is lubricated by a viscosity pump formed by a smooth disc 8 secured to one of the shafts 5 and co-operating with a coaxial annular groove 10 in a fixed body part 9, such groove having an abutment 11 with a delivery duct 12 adjacent thereto. As shown in Fig. 1 the disc 8 is arranged in the bore of the housing for the ball bearings 4 for the gear shaft 5 and the oil is drawn from a sump 6 through a duct 7 which may be provided with a priming wick. If the shaft is to rotate in both directions delivery ducts 12 each with a non-return valve 13 are provided at each side of the abutment 10. The lateral face of the disc may be used for the viscosity-pumping action.
