Abstract
1,140,877. Supercharged I. C. engines. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG-NURNBURG A. G. April 26, 1966 [May 13, 1965], No. 18318/66. Heading F1B. The output of an exhaust driven turbo-charger 1, 2, is increased at low speeds by delivering some of the air from the compressor delivery pipe 3 through a by-pass 10 to the exhaust pipes 6, 7, leading to the turbine and also by feeding compressed air to the turbine 1 from an engine-driven compressor 17. The exhaust pipes 6, 7, from separate groups of cylinders lead to separate nozzle chambers 8, 9, and the pipe 18 from compressor 17 leads to a third nozzle chamber 19. The by-pass pipe 10 has separate branches 11, 12, leading to the pipes 7, 6, each branch containing a non-return valve 13, 14, and a control valve 15, 16. If the valves 13, 14 are omitted the pipes 11, 12 are matched so that a pressure peak travelling from point 23 through pipes 11, 12, coincides at point 22 with a pressure peak in pipe 6. The compressor 17, Fig. 3 has an axially adjustable cylinder 31 to vary its output.
