Abstract

1447773 Two-stroke engines; heating charge ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 14 Sept 1973 [15 Sept 1972] 43213/73 Heading F1B In a two-stroke I.C. engine, a first air volume is used for scavenging, and a second air volume is mixed with fuel and exhaust, scavenging and mixture ports are located so that towards the end of a combustion stroke the piston opens the scavenging and mixture ports one after the other so that during a cycle the scavenging air inlet preceeds mixture inlet. Approximately <SP>2</SP>/ 3 of the crank-case air enters via scavenging ports 8, Fig. 1 whilst the remainder is mixed with injected fuel in an exhaust gas heated mixing chamber 6 before entering the cylinder. A non-return valve 21, Fig. 2 prevents pressure fluctuations affecting the mixing chamber 6. In another embodiment a tube 25, Fig. 4 projecting into the crank-case serves as a mixing chamber in which fuel is injected in a direction against the air-flow.
