Abstract

931,751. Cylinders. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG-NURNBERG A.G. Aug. 2, 1960 [Aug. 1, 1959], No. 26761/60. Class 7(2). An inlet passage 9, Fig. 1, for an engine in which the air is rotated in the cylinder in the direction of the arrow 6 has a first portion 9, the direction of flow in which is such that, if continued into a circular motion about the cylinder axis, it would be opposed to the desired rotation 6, followed by a portion 9a which is curved so that the end of the passage directs the air flow 12 through the valve in the same direction as the rotation in the cylinder. In Fig. 1 the cylinder has a second inlet valve 3, the inlet passage 8 of which is directed tangentially to the cylinder so that the flow there through is in the direction of rotation 6. In a multicylinder engine having the inlet valves 24, 25, Fig. 2, of successive cylinders adjacent one another, the inlet passages 31, 32 are arranged adjacent one another and fed by the same port 33 in the manifold 34, the passages 31, 32 being formed the same as passages 8,9, respectively in Fig. 1.
