Abstract

1,039,402. Multicylinder engine admission systems. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG-NURNBERG A.G. Feb. 19, 1963 [Feb. 26,1962], No. 6602/63. Heading FIB. In a multicylinder the cylinders are arranged in groups 1 . . . 3 and 4 ... 6 so that the induction periods in each group do not overlap, each group being connected through a manifold 9, 10 to an intake pipe 11, 12 which is at least 250 mm. in length, the intake pipes terminating in power equalizing chambers 13, 14. Each cylinder has means to produce air swirl therein about the axis. In the six cylinder four stroke engine shown with firing order 1-5-3-6-2-4, the cylinders are grouped 1 . . 3 and 4 . . 6. The pipes 11, 12 may lead to separate equalizing chambers 13, 14, or to a common chamber, which chamber may be formed by the air intake filter. The inlet valves are timed to open after top dead centre when the cylinder pressure has dropped to the intake pipe pressure and the exhaust valve cams are shaped to hold the exhaust valves slightly open at top dead centre.
