Abstract

1503086 Throttle valves for internal combustion engines FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 25 June 1976 26450/76 Heading F1B A multi-cylinder internal combustion engine has leading into each cylinder a mixture induction pipe 16 in each of which is mounted a Venturi section 19 and a closure valve element 20 movable into and out of the Venturi to effect throttling by a link rotated by a shaft 15. The shaft 15 is common, operating all the throttle elements of all the engine cylinders. A spring (not shown) prevents the element 20 from rattling. The function of the element is to improve mixing by accelerating the mixture passing thereby to supersonic speeds (except at or near wide open throttle) and inducing turbulence. The mixture may be provided by a constant depression carburetter or by fuel injection into an inlet manifold.
