Abstract

1291963 I C engine induction passages FORD MOTOR Co Ltd 10 May 1971 [29 June 1970] 14107/71 Heading F1B A wall 56 separating a mixture passage 28 from an air or mixture passage 30 is spaced from the head 38 of the closed intake valve 32 by 20 to 30 thousandths of an inch at its downstream end 58. Carbon deposits form on the valve head in use to seal the space between the head of the closed valve and the end 58. The valve rotates in use and the edge of the end 58 of the wall 56 scrapes excess carbon deposits from the valve head. The passages 28 and 30 are connected by respective manifold passages 12 and 14 to throttle valve controlled passages in a carburetter 16. The downstream end portion 59 of the passage 28 may be disposed at a substantial angle to the immediately upstream portion 52 to promote swirl in the mixture entering the engine cylinder.
