Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable to supply mixture gas through one carburetor at low engine loading time in an air intake system of an internal combustion engine having a plurality of cylinders each including a carburetor and the opening of a sub air intake passage outlet in the vicinity of the upstream of the air intake valve.
CONSTITUTION: In an internal combustion engine 12 having, for example, four cylinders 14 each including a carburetor 16, injection ports 38 are formed to mutually communicate through a sub air intake passage 44 with each other in the vicinity of the upstream of the air intake valves 20 of the respective cylinders 14 for ejecting high velocity air stream of large kinetic energy from the ports 38 into combustion chambers 28 at the intake strokes of the respective cylinders 14 to thereby agitate the gas in the respective chamber 28 so as to improve the combustion velocity at low engine loading time to thereby improve the combustion and to also purify the exhaust gas. This passage 44 communicates through an opening 46 with an air intake passage 18 to one cylinder 14. A throttle valve 40 is provided only in the passage 18 to be interlocked with a sub throttle valve 42 for opening in delay from the operation of the valve 40
