Exhaust, dealing with.-An apparatus for purifying exhaust gases comprises annular chambers g, containing broken or powdered coke, surmounted by perforated plates i and a series of nozzles k which discharge into a passage m connected to the engine suction pipe at a point between the carburettor and the engine cylinders. The exhaust gases enter the apparatus through a central perforated passage b containing a throttle valve p. The valve is connected to the carburettor throttle and opens only after the engine has commenced to work under its own power. An outlet r for surplus gases is provided in the casing a.
