Vaporizers, external.-A charge-forming device for internal-combustiun engines comprises a catalyzing chamber 1 heated by exhaust gases passing through a casing 2, and supplied with a rich mixture of fuel and air under pressure by a pump or fan, the catalyzed mixture passing through a conduit 4 to a mixer 5 to which extra air is admitted through a conduit 8, the final mixture passing through a conduit 9 to the engine 12. The mixer 5 comprises a spiral coil 6 provided with a tangential inlet 7, the coil 6 opening into a central chamber containing a power-driven impeller 11. The air inlet 8 of the mixer may be provided with a throttle valve which may be actuated independently of, or may be interconnected with, a throttle valve 10 situated in the outlet 9. Compressed air, a mixture of air and oxygen, or organic products containing oxygen may be supplied to the mixer 5. In a modification, two supplies of rich mixture, which may contain different fuels, are supplied to the one catalyzing chamber. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a), the catalyzing chamber may be heated by burners or electrically and may be supplied with fuel alone or mixed with exhaust gases, and the mixer 5 may be provided with fixed blades and may be heated electrically at starting. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
