Abstract
Exhaust gas collected by a tube projecting into the exhaust gas path is passed through a stainless steel filter fixed to the exhaust pipe, a charcoal granule and stainless steel main filter and brass injectors into the intake manifold.
Description
EXHAUST RECIRCULATED INJECTION SYSTEM
This invention relates to an Exhaust Recirculated injection System designed to collect exhaust gas vapour for recirculation back through the engine of virtually all i.c. powered vehicles.
It is a matter of record that exhaust gas recirculation and the introduction of steam vapours has a beneficial effect on the combustion process in the internal combustion engine, particularly in respect of reducing C.O., NOx and other noxious gases ensuing from vehicle exhausts.
Various devices have been evolved to achieve this end that have involved the use of moving parts, including pumps, water containers, valves, different types of float chambers and which have also involved engine modifications and adjustments, leading to limited application by way of requiring custom manufacture for the various forms of manifold and engine designs.
According to the present invention, the system has no moving parts, and can be retro-fitted easily to virtually any i.c. engine. It is also fully automatic in operation and does not itself require any adjustments or adjustments to the engine.
The System comprises:
Exhaust Gas Vapour Collectors.
Combined Filters and Condensers
Main Filter
Vapourising Chamber
Vapour Distributors
Inlet Manifold Injectors
All the above components are manufactured in non-ferrous metal and interconnected by suitable flexible heat resistant tubing.
EXHAUST GAS VAPOUR COLLECTOR (Petrol) Fig.l
This incorporates a collecting tube which is attached to the end of the vehicle tail pipe by an adjustable clamp. Distance between the device and the end of the exhaust pipe is predetermined by the mounting flange.
COMBINED FILTER AND CONDENSER (Petrol) Fig.2
This incorporates a stainless steel filter encased in a copper tube and clamped to the exhaust down pipe of the vehicle.
COMBINED VAPOUR COLLECTOR, FILTER de CONDENSER (Diesel) Fig.3 This incorporates a catheter vapour collector and stainless steel filter encased in a copper tube. The catheter is inserted into the exhaust pipe and the complete unit is attached to the exhaust pipe by two adjustable retaining clamps.
MAIN FILTER (Petrol and Diesel) Fig.4
This incorporates a charcoal and stainless steel filter and is fitted in a convenient place in the engine compartment.
VAPOURISING CHAMBER (Diesel) Fig.5
This incorporates a ceramic catheter encased in a perforated brass tube inserted into the exhaust pipe close to the exhaust manifold. This unit is encased in a copper tube with an inlet and outlet pipe and is secured to the exhaust pipe by a suitable clamp.
VAPOUR DISTRIBUTORS (Petrol Qe Diesel) Fig.6
The Vapour Distributors are incorporated on the top of the Main Filter.
INLET MANIFOLD INJECTORS (Petrol dc Diesel) Fig.7
These are threaded brass valves attached to the inlet manifold by way of drilling and tapping a suitable hole inthe inlet manifold.
For the petrol engine the system operates in the following manner
The Exhaust Gas Vapour Collector Fig. 1 is attached to the end of the vehicle tail pipe by means of an adjustable clamp 3. The distance between the Collector and the end of the exhaust pipe is predetermined by the mounting flange 4. The Collector incorporates a copper tube 2 through which a percentage of exhaust gas and vapour is collected and driven by the inherent pressure through suitable heat resistant tubing to the combined Filter/Condenser Fig.2. After passing through the stainless steel filter 1, the semi-filtered gaseous mixture is then supplied by suitable heat resistant tubing to the Main Filter Fig.4 where further filtration takes place by means of stainless steel filter mesh 1 and charcoal granules 2.
The gaseous mixture is then supplied via the Vapour Distributors Fig.6 to the inlet manifold injectors Fig.7 by means of suitable flexible heat resistant tubing.
For the diesel engine the system operates in the following manner
The Combined Vapour Collector, Filter & Condenser Fig.3 incorporates a catheter collector tube 1 which is inserted into the exhaust down pipe by means of a suitable hole and the complete unit is attached to the exhaust pipe by two adjustable retaining clamps 3.
A percentage of exhaust gas and vapour is collected by the catheter tube 1 and driven through stainless steel filter mesh 2. Fig.3 via heat resistant tubing to the Vapourising Chamber 2 Fig. 5.
Incorporated in the Vapourising Chamber is a further catheter made from a porous ceramic material encapsulated in a perforated brass tube 4.
This tube 4 is inserted into the vehicle exhaust pipe near the exhaust manifold 1 by means of a suitable hole. The gas supplied from the Combined Vapour Collector and Filter Fig.3 passes through heat resistant tubing to the copper inlet tube 5 Fig. 5. within the Vapouriing.
Chamber. From there the gas is supplied through the copper outlet pipe 6 Fig.5 by means of suitable heat resistant tubing to the Main
Filter Fig.4 and from there to Fig.6 and Fig.7 as for the petrol engine.
The complete assembly Fig 5 is secured to the exhaust pipe by means of a suitable retaining clamp 3.
